Tour de Hombre

Jed is from New York. He's lived down here for 8 years, and is married to an Argentine woman. He sets up activities for tourists, but makes most of his money getting people into the very high-demand football games. Unfortunately, there were no games scheduled during our visit, but his Man Tour was superb.

We started out with some traditional foods and the best empanadas I've had since arrival. Then we had a tradition tea drink called "mate" (which is supposed to have a stimulative effect) in the park right across the street from their very-impressive Congress building. We then took a 100-year old WOODEN subway car made in Belgium (lack of funds, not historical kitsch) to the barbershop. We then got a straight razor shave in the coolest place on earth (I may move here just to be able to hang out here). I felt as though I was transported back in time. The owner, "The Count," is an eccentric neighborhood legend, but unfortunately left town one day earlier. We also missed local old-timers singing tango music in the cafe side of the shop, but "Nacho" the barber was in a good mood celebrating a wedding in his family, and brought us Cinzano & soda (a treat according to Jed). Then we went to a 5-star hotel, hung out in their pool area, and smoked Cuban cigars and had Cuban rum (which made Bacardi taste like Windex). They both tasted like FREEDOM!!! Viva la revolution!

We finished off the day getting massages, eating buffalo wings, and watching football. I feel like I could kick Chuck Norris' wussy ass.
