Straight Razor Shaves: The Count of Cabillito

As part of The Man Tour we got straight razor shaves at a barber shop in the barrio of Cabillito. This place was awesome!

We learned that "The Count" has been deemed this because of his charity and presence in the neighborhood, often closing off streets and sponsoring parties for all his neighbors.

While waiting for our shaves we sipped complimentary Vermouth & Soda at tables along the sidewalk.

A-line subway

We took a ride on the 100+ year old train cars on the subway, line A. They are being decommissioned at the end of January, so we were lucky enough to have a final ride on them.

Interior all of wood. Manual doors and you could look straight down the tunnel when riding in the front car. Definitely built to last!

Making Mate

Mate is the traditional drink if Argentina. It is essentially a green tea. There is a traditional preparation and service style that is ceremonial almost in a Japanese tea service sort of way.

Looking for a win

After a rough day of train and subway rides, Andrew and I were looking for a win. We had been figuratively and sometimes literally walking in circles on Friday. It was unbearably hot and to top it off, Andrew was/is coming down with something (I think it's the same virus/cold I had a week ago).

We looked to Trip Advisor and found a highly recommended Thai place in BA Chinatown. It was very tasty, but not spicy. Argentinians evidentially do not like spicy food. In another instance at our favorite ex-pat bar, Casabar, the bartender stressed multiple times that the sauce on our buffalo wings was "hot" - it was moderate.

Looking for another win today - Man your day!!! Also, later the Vikings & Packers. Things come in 3's...

La Dorita = Spanish for The Dorita

Upon recommendation of a few travel sources we went steak again at La Dorita in the up and coming neighborhood of Palermo Hollywood.

Guess what? Argentinians don't understand medium rare (apunto). The first steaks were well done. We could not let that stand. We did not watch our buddies die lying face down in the muck to let some Argentinian serve us well done steak.

The waiter agreed that it was not "apunto" so he took it back and gave us another. It still wasn't quite medium rare, but acceptable. All in all, it tasted good. Plus, ceramic jug of penguin wine!
